What we have seen at the southern border throughout this year has been a complete and utter disaster. It is uncalled for and could easily have been avoided. Before I get into the majority of this, I want to begin with a quote from Jen Psaki during a press conference on September 24th.
"There are a lot of Republicans out there giving speeches about how outraged they are about the situation at the border; not many who are putting forward solutions or steps that we could take, so we're a little tired of the speeches.”
-Press Secretary Jen Psaki
In response to the first part, I am sorry that you are tired of the speeches in regards to the border. However, so are we–the American citizens of this country that it affects the most. If you think it is just the republicans that are outraged, you may want to re-think that. The magnitude of the crisis at the border goes much beyond the dreadful photos we see on the news. Again, I will get into that later, but Psaki, please don't send out a "poor me" response when you are among the least affected. If your administration truly cared, perhaps you would have listened to Mr. Hastings when he warned transition members concerning what would happen if Biden were to revoke the in-place policies–which has since happened. Leading me to the next statement.
" We'd like to partner on solutions and working together to address this problem that has not been bipartisan in the past.”
-Press Secretary Jen Psaki
Our last border crisis was in 2019. The avid release of children and family units into the country caused motivation for more people to send their children across the border. As a lot of these immigrants come from Central America, they don't just simply drive through Mexico. They are forced to hire cartels to traffic these children – a horrible process that was resulting in many cases of sexual abuse, killings, and overall cruelty.
Trump immediately turned to congress in search of a bipartisan agreement to solve the issue. Most democrat senators agreed to the solutions in meetings, though when it came to voting, they would have nothing to do with it. Therefore, Trump was forced to use his executive power to form the Remain in Mexico policy directly with the Mexican government. The policy contained a threat to tariff all Mexican products if they failed to comply. It allowed the US to move all incoming illegal immigrants to Mexico until they were fully processed. The fact that people didn’t want to pay dangerous cartels to stay in Mexico for 4 years laid the groundwork for the lowest number of immigrants in 45 years.
As I'll say over and over, I am not against immigration at all. It is great for the country and is precisely what we have been built on. But there is a correct way to go about it though, a legal way that needs to be followed.
Being said, let's see how we have gotten to this point in the current crisis. A point where there are now arrows navigating immigrants how to cross and thousands of them being forced to sleep nearly on top of one another after they arrive.
On the first day the Biden administration took office, the executive order 13768 of the Trump administration was revoked. To grasp an idea of what this order entailed, here is the Purpose stated in Section 1.
Interior enforcement of our Nation's immigration laws is critically important to the national security and public safety of the United States. Many aliens who illegally enter the United States and those who overstay or otherwise violate the terms of their visas present a significant threat to national security and public safety. This is particularly so for aliens who engage in criminal conduct in the United States.
Sanctuary jurisdictions across the United States willfully violate Federal law in an attempt to shield aliens from removal from the United States. These jurisdictions have caused immeasurable harm to the American people and to the very fabric of our Republic.
Tens of thousands of removable aliens have been released into communities across the country, solely because their home countries refuse to accept their repatriation. Many of these aliens are criminals who have served time in our Federal, State, and local jails. The presence of such individuals in the United States, and the practices of foreign nations that refuse the repatriation of their nationals, are contrary to the national interest.
Although Federal immigration law provides a framework for Federal-State partnerships in enforcing our immigration laws to ensure the removal of aliens who have no right to be in the United States, the Federal Government has failed to discharge this basic sovereign responsibility. We cannot faithfully execute the immigration laws of the United States if we exempt classes or categories of removable aliens from potential enforcement. The purpose of this order is to direct executive departments and agencies (agencies) to employ all lawful means to enforce the immigration laws of the United States.
Furthermore, on this first day in office, Biden issued Proclamation 10142, essentially eliminating the building of the wall at the border. He then followed with his first legislative proposal, one that would grant amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants inside the U.S.
All of which created a downward spiral resulting in Kamala Harris being put in charge mid March, and hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants coming across the border. Do you remember that whole "kids in cages" ordeal from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) back in 2018? The point AOC was attempting to get across, was that illegal immigrants were being kept in an overflow facility in McAllen, Texas. A facility that was built under the Obama administration. A couple of years later, AOC is all of a sudden silent on the matter. Odd, considering the fact that now, there are thousands of more illegal immigrants in the same building, and they're laying on the ground against one another. Needless so say, this happened also in the midst of a global pandemic. They are not vaccinated, but that is not a requirement to enter the US now. At least for immigrants that is. Foreign nationals must show vaccination cards upon arrival.
On another note, let's cycle back to the sexual abuse cases during the past crisis in 2019. Do you think that went away? Of course not, it has only worsened. In early March, 19 corpses of Central American descent were found in a car in Mexico, as they were on their way to Texas. This was not long before a dead body was found in the river at the border. Those are a few that made the news, but it is likely that there have been many more cases. It is naive to believe that criminal organizations and organized terrorist groups are not going to take advantage of this nearly open border.
From January 1st to the present (being late September at time of writing), there have been almost 1.3 million apprehensions at the southern border. During the last two months, there have been at least 6,700 people per day. There are also over 300,000 known getaways, while homeland security secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has been stating repeatedly that the border is closed. All of which came to light at a senate homeland security and governmental affairs committee. Mayorkas went on to answer zero questions about the numbers or percentages of individuals that are being released into the country or sent back.
In the effort to distract people from what's going on at the border, the administration recently created a false narrative about Border Patrol agents on horses with whips, hitting the crossing illegal immigrants. My best guess, they meant to ignite an emotional response for them, a tactic they are no virgin to using. Here are some various statements from the administration, following the release of the photographs.
“I was horrified by what I saw,”
-Mayorkas said on CNN.
Jen Psaki said the photos were “horrific” and announced on September 23rd that Border Patrol agents would no longer ride horses in Del Rio.
"To see people treated like they did, horses barely running over, people being strapped — it's outrageous,"
"I promise you, those people will pay. There will be an investigation underway now and there will be consequences. There will be consequences.”
-President Joe Biden
On the contrary, I would find it relevant to provide that nobody at the scene, nor the photographer of the actual photographs reported any such whipping. Furthermore, they stated against these sort of accusations. There were no such "whips" that even existed. To ride a horse, you use something called reigns, and they naturally swing around when your riding.
"Agents use their reins for a lot of reasons." Further adding,
"Primarily it's used to steer the horse, but agents will also spin them sometimes to deter people from getting too close to the horse…We are not aware of anyone being struck with the reins," the BP agent stated.
All in all, despite those few hiccups, everything is sunshine and rainbows at the southern border. I'm sure things will straighten up at some point. After all, it is obvious what needs to be done: We need to turn Mayorkas’ statements into the truth. But then again, if we don't allow all these people in, who's going to be voting for Biden come next election cycle? It is indeed a stretched statement, but you know, I'm curious as to why they're dropping all these "passed" immigrants off in buses in the swing states.
